Whilst I acknowledge and highly respect our founder teachers, I strongly believe our Arts should adapt to the realities of our times. with the rise of mixed Martial Arts, it is forcing the traditional arts to stand up and take stock, this is a good thing and we need challenges to force us out of our comfort zones in training.
Southern Mantis is a very demanding art that specialises in mid / close range fighting. It is famed for it’s use of the phoenix eye fist and hammer fist techniques. Practioners of Southern Mantis are known for their direct and aggressive fighting style.
Fatigue Makes Cowards Of Us All"
Vince Lombardi
Through the use of traditional and modern methods we seek to strengthen and condition our bodies natural weapons, mixing traditional training chongs with kettle bells, clubs, sand bags, tyres, heavy bags, focus pads etc. we consider it important to maximise partner training and have a clear knowledge of application of techniques.
Southern Mantis has numerous forms to develop our bodies and specific fighting principals, but it is of utmost importance that the training of the forms are real and their applications fully understood.
Grandmaster Ip Sui described Martial Arts as being like a crumbled piece of paper that you are trying to smooth out and every technique is like this, to be able to reach its true meaning.
I ask you to leave your egos and politics at the door and enter with the heart to train hard and show respect for your training partners.
Through hard training we seek to discover and strengthen our weaknesses, build confidence and develop our spirits.
