Forms
Many people view forms as worthless practice, dance like movements with no value for self-defence, this is both sad and naive.
Forms carry the history and seeds of our system and require diligent practice to unearth the secrets held within.
Even the most basic form will turnout to be the most advanced, they were designed to guide you through the system and develop our skills, and each form has a specific purpose and fighting skill. Please do not forget this.
I hear Students that express their skills by the number of forms they can perform, but when asked for their meaning, they do not know, to be a collector of forms is like having a large library and have never read the books.
So how do we develop forms to gain all the wealth they have to offer, we must understand that even though some routines maybe long that we cannot expect a fight to carry on for that length of time and that your opponent will not fight according to your rules.
When training in forms it is essential that you can visualise their applications and see your opponent in your minds eye.
Taking individual techniques from the forms and then applying them to partner training.
Then when sparring using the techniques and principles from the forms, through hard work and diligent practice the secrets will present themselves to you.
